Celebrating 75 Years of Achievement
“A Diamond Jubilee”
Since 1946, The Tallahassee Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. has been a major contributor to the professional lifestyle in our community and across the Big Bend of North Florida. Our social and civic participation has contributed to the growth and development of the residents of Tallahassee and surrounding communities, both youth and adults.
Members of Tallahassee Alumni are committed to serve for life, we have eleven active members in our chapter with more than 50 years of membership in the Fraternity. Our chapter’s membership cover Leon, Gadsden, and Wakulla Counties. The career diversity of our membership is vast. We have members who are doctors, mentors, lawyers, businessmen, principals, college sports coaches, university administrators, politicians, morticians, ministers, certified public accountants, college professors, band directors, graduate school enrollees, doctoral candidates, recent college graduates and retirees. Members of our chapter serve the Fraternity at the Province (regional) and National levels. I encourage you to read our history.
Nearly 150 men have been initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi through the Tallahassee Alumni Chapter. Many of these initiates have gone on to achieve greatly in all fields of human endeavor: Dr. B.L. Perry, former President of Florida A & M University, Dr. Cornelius Grant, former Southeastern Province Polemarch and Laurel Wreath Laureate, Dr. Charles Evans, former (local) NAACP President, and Cleveland Ferguson, III, Esq., past Grand Historian of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., just to name a few.
In 1972, our youth development initiative called The Guide Right Program launched its Kappa Leadership Development League (Kappa League) at FAMU High School. Some 45+ years later, Kappa League continues to be a successful vehicle further developing young men today into tomorrow’s leaders. Some former Kappa Leaguers include local businessman Rev. Ernest J. Lane, former State Representative Alan Williams, local businessman Thomas J. Griffin, Jr., Coach Albert Arnold and former Leon County School Principal Karwynn Paul. These are just some examples of the results of the mentoring, nurturing, and training afforded to young leaders through the Kappa League.
Tallahassee Alumni extends its leadership training and mentorship to the collegiate level by supervising two of the greatest undergraduate chapters in the world: Florida A & M University Chapter, The Alpha Xi of Kappa Alpha Psi and Florida State University Chapter, The Theta Eta of Kappa Alpha Psi.
Supported by our wives (Silhouettes) and the Kappa Alpha Psi Guide Right Foundation (the philanthropic arm of the Tallahassee Alumni Chapter), we are able to sponsor programs and social events that exceed expectations. Programs that address men’s health issues; The Herbert G. Parker Kappa Klassic Golf Tournament; The Sweetheart Affair; The Guide Right Beautillion; and The Black & White Ball Scholarship Gala are some of the most notable.
Please enjoy your visit and join us for any of our public events.
